THIS MODULE INTRODUCES A MODEL OF TEACHING ACADEMIC SKILLS TO STRUGGLING LEARNERS: DIRECT AND EXPLICIT INSTRUCTION. INCLUDED ARE DESCRIPTIONS OF INSTRUCTIONAL PRINCIPLES THAT ARE HIGHLY RELATED TO POSITIVE LEVELS OF STUDENT ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AS WELL AS HOW THESE PRINCIPLES CAN BE APPLIED DURING THE INSTRUCTIONAL PROCESS. LESSON DESIGN AND DELIVERY FOR TEACHING FACTUAL LEVEL KNOWLEDGE ARE DESCRIBED AND DEMONSTRATED. THE SECOND PART OF THIS MODULE CONTINUES THE PRESENTATION ON DIRECT AND EXPLICIT INSTRUCTION BEGINNING WITH THE DESIGN OF EFFECTIVE PRACTICE ACTIVITIES.
